Freshers' Events

Hey all,

Freshers' WeekWith Freshers'  week (12th September till 19th September) just over a month away, GameSoc have organised several events for new and old students alike to come & find out what we do. These events are just a snap shot of the activity of the society with many of our social events falling in the weeks following Freshers' week, but these are chance to come talk to the committee & meet other gamers around the University.

The society will be present on both days of the Freshers' Fair on the 15th and 16th with a stall at the Pleasance where you can join the society, ask questions, steal our sweets and play on our Wii. If that is not enticing enough, almost every society will be present so you should at least stop by while talking to them.

On the last Sunday of Freshers' week (19th September) we will be hosting our annual Freshers' LAN in the dining room of Teviot. Whether you are a seasoned LAN gamer or just wondering what they are, this event caters for all with space for you to set up a desktop/laptop, and the society consoles will be around all day for those who don't want to lug their own stuff along.

Additionally, we will be hosting some tournaments during the day which are open to all. Watch this space for more details.

If you have any questions about our events or joining the society, you can contact Kenny, GameSoc's esteemed dictator president at president(at)gamesoc.org

See you there,

Fitz

Dare Protoplay

Every year the development teams from the Dare to be Digital competition in Dundee, get a chance to show off their prototype games to audiences during the Edinburgh Festival. Basically a chance to go play some new, and generally good games, for free and talk to the students who spent their summer making them.

This year, GameSoc's former president, Chris "mm0zct" Thompson, is in attendance as part of the development team behind Epoch Defence so make sure to head down and vote for it!

Dare Protoplay is happening from the 13th to the 15th August at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

First Post

Welcome to the new GameSoc.org

For older members of the society, this site should look somewhat familiar as its inspiration was taken from the old site, what is referred to here as v1 of the society website (pre-2008), while being a more modern site that can be in use for a years to come. There are also elements retained from v2 of gamesoc.org (2008-2010), though design & colour scheme aren't among them.

Most importantly though this site is a new site  for Edinburgh University Computer Gaming Society, written from the ground up to provide information on events,  hardware, committee, life time members and the society's own history, as well as providing an extensible framework for the site to grow as new features are necessary.

For now, feel free to explore the site,

Andy aka Fitz

If you have any feedback on the site at all, please contact web(at)gamesoc.org
